GORD contributes to the 9th GCC Municipal Work Conference in Doha

GORD participated in the ninth Gulf Municipal Work Conference hosted by the State of Qatar, under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani. HE Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi opened the activities of the conference which was titled “The Role of municipalities in achieving the goals of sustainable development in the light of economic variables”.

For his part, Dr. Yousef Mohammed Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, opened the panel session with a presentation titled “GCC Sustainable Cities from theory to practice; Lusail City as a case study for sustainable cities” focusing on the livability, workability and sustainability of cities, outlining the role of GORD in working closely with government institutions and entities to drive forward Qatar’s efforts to develop sustainability across various fields.

Dr. Alhorr emphasized GORD’s pledge to adopt best practices in environment protection and sustainability, promoting a steer towards non polluted, healthy living conditions in cities that are efficient in delivering essential civic services whilst maintaining minimal environmental impact footprint and high conservation of non-renewable resources. He finalized his presentation by actively encouraging partners to adopt stringent requirements on sustainability and promote dialogue about this.
