The Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD), the leading entity for the Qatar chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), has successfully concluded an intensive four-day training program for the internationally recognized Certified Energy Manager (CEM) accreditation. The workshop was hosted by GORD Academy, the organization’s specialized center of excellence dedicated to fostering knowledge dissemination and delivering educational programs focused on green building skills, climate action, and deep decarbonization strategies.

The workshop attracted a diverse cohort of local and regional engineering professionals representing prominent organizations, including Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), Hamad Medical Corporation, and Jaidah Motors & Trading. Designed specifically for those operating within the energy management, sustainability, and engineering sectors, the CEM accreditation stands as one of the most prestigious and globally respected credentials in the industry. Since its inception in 1981, the program has empowered over 30,000 professionals across more than 100 countries. Its global standing is further solidified by ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Entidad Nacional de Acreditación (ENAC), alongside recognition by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines.

Throughout the rigorous four-day curriculum, participants engaged with a comprehensive range of technical topics essential for modern energy leadership. The workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics, including energy codes and standards, energy accounting and economics, energy audits and instrumentation, electrical power systems and motors, HVAC systems, industrial systems, building envelope, combined heat and power (CHP) systems and renewable energy, fuel supply and pricing, building automation and control systems, thermal energy storage systems, lighting systems, boiler and steam systems, maintenance and commissioning, energy savings, performance contracting, and measurement and verification.

Following the completion of this workshop, candidates will sit for a formal examination to earn the distinguished AEE CEM title. Once certified, these professionals are equipped to optimize the energy performance of facilities and industrial plants by acting as systems integrators for mechanical, electrical, and building infrastructures. By analyzing cost-effective solutions to reduce consumption, CEMs serve as pivotal team leaders who develop and implement robust energy management strategies.

As companies worldwide seek to strengthen their competitive positions through sustainable operational practices, the CEM program continues to be one of its most sought-after offerings, forming part of a broader portfolio of professional certification programs delivered by GORD Academy to advance sustainability expertise across the region.
