GORD and AHRI leaders formalize partnership to scale sustainable HVACR solutions
The Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD), a leading RDI entity in global sustainability, and the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), a prominent North American trade association, have formalized their collaboration on advancing sustainable practices within the Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) sector in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. To this end, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at HVACR World in Dubai, UAE. The signing ceremony was led by Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, and Mr. Stephen Yurek, AHRI’s President and CEO.
Dr. Yousef Alhorr, commented on the collaboration, stating, “Our MoU with AHRI aims to address the unique climatic challenges amid escalating energy demands of our region. By combining GORD's regional expertise and research capabilities with AHRI's global leadership in HVACR standards and certification, we are certain of this collaboration's promising potential. We are optimistic it will be instrumental in accelerating the deployment and widespread adoption of demonstrably energy-efficient, environmentally sound, and climate-responsive HVACR technologies tailored to the specific needs and regulatory landscapes of the MENA region, ultimately contributing to our shared objectives of decarbonization and resource optimization in alignment with national and international sustainability agendas."
Drawing upon its established and extensive expertise within the sustainability domain, GORD will strategically leverage the reach and influence of AHRI that represents a global consortium of manufacturers specializing in HVACR, and water heating equipment. AHRI plays a crucial and widely recognized role in the HVACR sector by establishing industry standards, rigorously certifying the performance of manufactured products, and actively advocating for the widespread adoption of energy efficiency and sustainable practices throughout the industry. This synergy between GORD's sustainability acumen and AHRI's industry leadership promises to drive impactful advancements in the region.
Under the MOU, both GORD and AHRI will actively engage in promoting effective communication and exchange of vital information on a wide array of critical areas, including the intricacies of industry standards, the specifics of testing methodologies employed, the standardized formats for test reports, and the essential requirements for regulatory compliance within the HVACR sector.
Furthermore, GORD and AHRI are committed to jointly advancing awareness, fostering innovation, and bolstering research and development initiatives within the HVAC testing and related domains. This will encompass targeted awareness campaigns, promotion of innovative technologies, undertaking of joint research and development projects, and the implementation of comprehensive capacity building programs for industry professionals. These efforts will be strategically directed towards key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and manufacturing entities operating within the HVAC landscape.
The collaboration will also explore synergistic opportunities in marketing and promotional activities. GORD and AHRI will work together to highlight the advanced capabilities and comprehensive services offered by GORD’s laboratories to the wider HVACR industry. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the visibility and recognition of GORD’s contributions to the sector and facilitating greater access to its specialized testing and research facilities inside TechnoHub at Qatar Science and Technology Park.
GORD and AHRI also intend to partner in organizing joint events that will be both virtual and in person, with meticulously planned agendas to benefit the broader industry. These collaborative events may involve direct participation from both GORD and AHRI, as well as potential collaborations with AHRI’s extensive network of member organizations.
The MoU between GORD and AHRI builds upon their previous discussions, which highlighted their shared commitment to enhancing the environmental performance of HVAC systems. The collaboration is expected to leverage GORD’s advanced testing facilities and research capabilities, including its patented Synergia9n1 cooling technology, alongside AHRI’s extensive network and expertise in HVACR standards and certification. Apart from the specified areas of collaboration, GORD and AHRI will maintain an open and proactive stance towards identifying future joint initiatives.
Alongside his role as a signatory at the AHRI MoU, Dr. Yousef Alhorr also served as a key speaker at HVACR World, where he presented his innovation, Synergia9n1, and highlighted how its hybrid cooling technology supports healthier indoor spaces and stronger energy performance. He outlined how the patented system delivers up to 50% energy reduction and 30–50% CO₂ savings.
