GORD hosts Korea’s Busan Metropolitan Corporation to advance sustainable urban development
The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD) recently welcomed a delegation from South Korea’s Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) to its headquarters at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). The visit brought together senior representatives from both organizations to explore potential areas of cooperation in sustainable urban development, environment-focused innovation and climate finance.
BMC is a public organization based in Busan, South Korea, that plays a central role in land development, housing supply, and urban infrastructure planning. The corporation manages a wide range of projects including industrial complexes, tourism sites, and public housing initiatives. In recent years, BMC has increasingly incorporated environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into its development strategy.
The recent visit to GORD forms part of this effort, as BMC explores new avenues to support its sustainability-focused initiatives. The discussions between GORD and BMC commenced with an opening address by GORD’s Founding Chairman, Dr. Yousef Alhorr. Following the introductory session, senior representatives from GORD’s various Centers of Excellence and affiliates led detailed technical presentations on smart city development, ESG management, and climate finance mechanisms.
The delegation concluded the visit with an immersive tour of GORD’s RDI facility called TechnoHub, where they observed firsthand the laboratory environments and technological advancements driving the region's green transition.
