GORD Academy Hosts First Certified Energy Practitioner Workshop

GORD Academy Hosts First CEP Workshop

GORD Academy, the knowledge dissemination arm of the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), successfully concluded this year’s first Certified Energy Practitioner (CEP) workshop. The two-day, in-person workshop was held at the Innovation Center located inside the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), bringing together energy professionals seeking to strengthen their expertise and play a more active role in optimizing energy performance across the built environment.

Previously known as the Accredited Energy Practitioner (AEP), the CEP program equips participants with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to achieve certification. The curriculum offered a comprehensive deep dive into critical topics such as the energy audit process, identifying energy saving opportunities (ESOs), and mastering energy reporting and resources. By integrating energy audits with sustainability ratings, the workshop provided a clear pathway to decarbonization, ensuring that professionals are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the industry.

The CEP credential, valid for three years from the date of issuance, enhances professional standing while authorizing certified individuals to conduct energy audits for existing buildings during their operational phase. It also plays a critical role in regulatory compliance within the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) framework. Effective November 2024, all GSAS Operations Service Providers applying for new licenses or renewals are required to have at least one professional holding a valid CEP accreditation, reinforcing the importance of qualified expertise in achieving sustainable building operations.
