GORD and Al-Sayer Group establish a cooperative relationship for implementing GSAS in Kuwait
Gulf Organization for Research & Development (GORD), the authority for knowledge on sustainability in the MENA region, and Al-Sayer Group, a leading private sector entity have signed an MOU articulating the implementation of Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) in all Al-Sayer Group future projects in the State of Kuwait. The signing ceremony on 19th January 2015 was witnessed by Dr. Yousef Alhorr, GORD’s Founding Chairman and Mr. Mubarak Al-Sayer, Al-Sayer Group Executive Director and the CEO of the Automobile Group.
The signing of the MoU between GORD and Al-Sayer Group comes in line with the mutual interests of both parties to promote the adoption of sustainability’s best practices in GCC based on the standards developed by GSAS, the first performance-based sustainability rating system developed in MENA Region. Furthermore, the MoU facilitate the collaboration between the two parties on:
1. Education: training courses, workshops and seminars.
2. Events: conferences, symposiums and outreach activities.
3. Research and Development related to Sustainable Built Environment.
On this occasion, Dr. Yousef Al Horr commented: “GORD is always keen to establish strong relationships with entities from public as well as private sector to promote sustainability practices in the built environment. We will devote the necessary time and effort to support the noble mission of Al-Sayer Group as a leading entity in Kuwait”.
Mr. Mubarak Al-Sayer expressed his happiness upon signing the agreement with GORD, observing it would strengthen the cooperation between the two parties in all issues of common interest. He also added: “We value our partnership with GORD, taking advantage of their expertise in the region in the matters related to sustainability’s best practices. Embracing on green buildings practices is a strategic direction in our Group since we believe it will improve our customers satisfaction from business perspective and as a responsible corporate at the same time, as it will also help preserving our environment and natural resources. We envisage that Al-Sayer Group Vision to embrace on sustainability would serve as a model for others to follow.”
Both parties had also organized a GSAS-CGP Workshop for Al-Sayer staff, from the 17th to 19th of January 2015. The workshop which delivered by GORD expertise was attended by more than 20 professionals from different departments in Al-Sayer Group as well as the design and construction firms working on different projects for the Group.
The workshop aimed to provide delegates with the necessary knowledge and tools related to GSAS standards and how it can be implemented on projects of different typologies and functions.
