GORD joins UNEP’s Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction to accelerate global push for sustainable buildings
The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD) has officially joined the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC), the premier international platform driving the transition toward a zero-emission, efficient, and climate-resilient built environment. Founded at COP21 and hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), GlobalABC brings together a wide network of stakeholders committed to transforming the building and construction sector. With GORD’s inclusion, the alliance now boasts 366 members representing 69 countries, including national governments, major industry players, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
With its long-standing, hands-on experience in certifying sustainable buildings, a thrust of GORD’s contribution will come from GSAS Trust’s deep technical expertise in the built environment. Its work—focused on energy performance, emissions, and climate resilience—is grounded in applied methodologies, particularly in regions with challenging climatic conditions. By providing proven tools and practical implementation insights, GSAS Trust will support GlobalABC’s strategies for decarbonizing buildings, ensuring that they are informed by real-world, context-sensitive solutions.
By becoming a member, GORD will engage in high-impact collaboration with global partners to shape policy dialogue, advance sustainable construction practices, and contribute to international efforts aimed at decarbonizing the sector. GORD’s involvement will also include participation in key working groups, action clusters, and innovation hubs, allowing for the co-development of research outputs, knowledge products, and policy recommendation.
GORD will also take part in GlobalABC’s flagship events, where it will share its expertise, exchange best practices, and help drive collective action. The collaboration is set to reinforce efforts in raising awareness of forward-thinking building policies and business models, implementing tangible decarbonization actions across the value chain, and addressing systemic barriers to private sector engagement.
