GORD highlights low-energy solutions at ASHRAE conference

The Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD) actively participated as the Sustainability Partner in the Third International ASHRAE Conference on Energy and Indoor Environment for Hot Climates, held in Doha from April 23-24, 2025. The conference, taking place in a region where extreme temperatures underscore the critical need for energy-efficient indoor environmental quality (IEQ) solutions, provided a timely platform for experts to share the latest advancements in the field.
The core focus of this year’s ASHRAE conference resonated strongly with the challenges and priorities of Qatar and the wider Gulf region. Discussions centered on achieving optimal indoor environments without incurring substantial energy consumption, a particularly relevant concern in areas characterized by prolonged periods of high ambient temperatures. The event aimed to foster a deeper understanding of integrating energy efficiency in HVAC systems with indoor air quality in hot climates, while also examining the impact of low-energy design on occupant health across various building sectors in both developed and developing nations.

GORD’s senior leadership contributed significantly to the conference through insightful keynote addresses and presentations. Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, presented Synergia9n1’s innovative multimode ultra-efficient outdoor cooling systems. Highlighting the system’s potential for significant energy savings, Dr. Alhorr cited experimental data indicating that Synergia9n1 can achieve up to a 50% reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional direct expansion (DX) condensing units or air-cooled chiller systems, particularly during harsh hot and humid summer conditions.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Yousef Alhorr said, “Accelerating low-energy HVAC solutions is an imperative part of GORD’s sustainability drive. We’re not only advocating for proven strategies but also incubating our own innovations designed specifically for the unique environmental and climatic demands of the MENA region. Synergia9n1 is the culmination of over a decade of rigorous research and development. Platforms such as this conference are vital for amplifying awareness and accelerating the adoption of transformative solutions like Synergia9n1.”
