AEE’s Certified Renewable Energy Professional (REP™) is an industry recognized certification for energy management and sustainability professionals. The certification recognizes the expertise and experience of professionals involved in the specification and application of renewable and alternative energy technologies, assessment of renewable energy projects, and development of achievable low-carbon and sustainability goals for organizations.
REPs are energy managers that have selected to focus on energy generation, production, storage technologies and strategies that are considered “green and clean,” renewable or sustainable. These may include wind power, solar, thermal, or photovoltaic, geothermal, biopower, tidal, and hydroelectric technologies. Globally, REP® accreditation is among the most respected in the field of renewables.
What is REP® Training Program?
The Certified Renewable Energy Professional (REP™) Training Program provides attendees with in-dept knowledge about alternative energy sources, clean energy technologies, and sustainable energy practices. Over three days, candidates learn about renewable energy principles and practices of greatest relevance and practical value.

Who is eligible to become CREP®?
- Candidates with relevant experience or educational credentials (see below).
- Candidates who have attended a training program that aligns with the fundamental knowledge base of the program, and the principles and practices of the industry as a whole.
- Candidates who have passed the associated exam that demonstrates candidates’ technical knowledge, proficiency, and abilities in the area of energy efficiency.
Experience and Education Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Hold a 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in engineering, architecture, science, business or related field, along with 2+ years related* work experience.
- Hold a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) qualification, along with 2+ related* work experience.
- Hold 2-year associate degree, along with 5+ years related* work experience.
- Have 10+ years related* work experience.
- Hold current status of Certified Energy Manager® (CEM®)
*Verified experience in renewable, alternative energy, biomass, biofuel, solar or related field.
