GORD launches GHG Accounting Professional Training Program with inaugural workshop
GORD Academy, a Center of Excellence of the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), successfully conducted its inaugural GHG Accounting Professional Workshop. The three-day program, held at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), focused on equipping organizational representatives with the expertise to understand, measure, and effectively manage their environmental impact, particularly concerning greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The intensive workshop provided a comprehensive foundation for developing, managing, and disclosing organizational GHG inventories in line with leading international standards. The rigorous curriculum covered essential global frameworks and accounting principles, including detailed coverage of core standards such as the ISO 14064 series (Parts 1, 2, and 3). The training began by establishing the global context with an introduction to climate change and GHG accounting, discussing international bodies like the UNFCCC, IPCC, and the Paris Agreement. To ensure practical application, sessions featured a mix of expert-led instruction, real-world case studies.
Representatives from several prominent organizations attended the workshop, underscoring the growing corporate commitment to sustainability and decarbonization. Attending entities included Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar Fertiliser Company, Waseef Asset Management Co, AISCIA Informatics, NCK Consulting LLC, and Enext Solution Qatar.
Following the training, participants will undertake a certification exam. Successful candidates will be awarded GORD’s GHG Accounting Professional credential, validating their expertise in leading GHG accounting processes, supporting audits and verifications, and guiding organizations toward credible decarbonization pathways.
