GORD’s low-carbon innovation wins Emirates Energy Award

Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), has been honored with the prestigious Emirates Energy Award (EEA), securing the highest accolade “Gold” in the Research and Development Award category. Presented by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), the award recognizes Dr. Alhorr’s contribution to advancing low-carbon technologies and promoting sustainable cooling solutions with the development of Synergia9n1 – a patented, ultra-efficient, and multi-modal dedicated outdoor air system designed to cool and ventilate both open and enclosed spaces. The innovation was selected after a rigorous review process from a wide pool of 250 international submissions.
The award ceremony took place as part of the 11th World Green Economy Summit, attended by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. This year’s award cycle attracted entries from 25 countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and several European and Asian nations. Winners were recognized across 10 categories.
Synergia9n1’s pioneering technology has secured patents from prestigious international bodies, including WIPO Switzerland, USA, UK, China and Mexico, validating the uniqueness and originality of the system. By integrating three advanced cooling technologies and six energy harvesting techniques, the system delivers up to 50% reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional DX condensing units or air-cooled chiller systems.
This latest recognition by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy adds to the growing list of prestigious awards already secured by Synergia9n1, underscoring its global impact and leadership in sustainable innovation. The system has previously been honored with multiple international accolades, including the Energy Innovation of the Year 2022 by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), the Best Patent in Energy Efficiency Award by the League of Arab States (LAS), and the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Award at the 15th International Invention Fair of the Middle East.
Reflecting on the achievement, Dr. Yousef Alhorr said, “The continued recognition of Synergia9n1 across the globe, from securing multiple patents to receiving international awards, demonstrates one thing: our innovation is a universal solution to the critical challenge of energy efficiency. This is not a local achievement; it is a global validation of our low-carbon technology’s transformative potential."
The Emirates Energy Award serves as a key international platform to recognize achievements and showcase notable innovations that contribute to energy management, conservation, and the advancement of a sustainable energy future.
