This research project aims to improve the throughput of PV panels by reducing the PV temperature and utilizing the low grade heat in a desiccant cooling system. The PV performance will improve by reducing the PV panel temperature and the overall efficiency will improve due to the utilization of the thermal load. Two typical PV panels, with a maximum output power of 50W were tested. The first one was retrofitted with a copper cooling plate consisting of hollow copper pipes with running water to the back of the PV panel in order to provide cooling for the PV. The pipe was welded on to a copper plate lining the back of the PV panel to facilitate heat transfer.

The monitoring and logging of the power and other parameters were done by designing and building a custom made microcontroller based Smart Data Logging system which measured each parameter with specific sensors.
