GORD Participated in Qatar Projects Conference 2015
GORD, the authority for knowledge on sustainability in MENA region, has participated on March 10th, 2015 at Grand Hyatt – Doha, in the 12th edition of Qatar Projects Conference 2015, the most significant annual meeting for key stakeholders and international service providers looking to do business in Qatar, organized by MEED as associate partner.
In a speech delivered at the conference, Dr. Yousef Alhorr, GORDís Founding Chairman, highlighted the implementation of the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), the 1st integrated and performance-based rating system for the construction industry in the MENA region, in Qatar Mega Projects 2010 – 2020.
“GORD is supporting Qatar National Vision 2030’s four pillars (Human, Social, Economic & Environmental Developments).” He reiterated QNDS 2011-1016 the conformity requirements of GSAS by all government buildings by 2016. Afterward, all new commercial buildings and residential buildings will be brought into the new regime.
“Moreover, GSAS incorporates its standards with the new version of Qatar Construction Specification 2014 (QCS 2014) in section 7 “Green Construction”, which will provide a clear blueprint for sustainable building development in the country, helping ultimately the provision of quality of life in Qatar”, Dr. Yousef Alhorr said.
“Most of government agencies, mega-project developers, as well as semi-government institutes or organizations, had already adapted to green building practices; starting with very large projects and developments, including new cities, all the way through to commercial buildings, residential buildings, as well as civic buildings, including museums and mosques. GSAS Applied Projects are including and not limited to: Lusail City Projects, Qatar Rail (Metro), Qatar 2022 (Stadiums), Ashghal Projects (Schools & Mosques), New Port, Navy Base, and many more”, he quoted. Dr. Alhorr extended his sincere thanks to the organizers for arranging this prestigious event.
