FIFA Officially Endorsed the Use of Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) for 2022 World Cup Venues

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has reiterated today the commitment to delivering stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ which are built with sustainability standards which will leave a lasting environmental legacy. This came as FIFA officially endorsed the use of Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) for 2022 FIFA World Cup™ venues at the Green Expo Forum held in Doha today.

At the event, the SC Secretary General, H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, highlighted the importance of delivering a sustainable tournament to tie in to Qatar’s national development plans: “Sustainable environmental development is one of the pillars to build a better future for the coming generations", as stated in the Qatar National Vision 2030. To achieve this, we must be sustainable beyond the borders of our plans, and turn them into a vision and daily behavior that we aim to apply in all areas, in order to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
