AEE Qatar Chapter hosts first CMVP® Energy Training Program
Leading the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Qatar Chapter, the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) has successfully delivered Qatar’s first ever training workshop for AEE’s Certified Measurement & Verification Professional® (CMVP®) program. The CMVP certification from AEE is a prestigious professional accreditation that is widely recognized across the globe. Attained after passing CMVP exam, the certification attests to an individual's extensive understanding of industry best practices for measurement and verification (M&V).
Concluded on March 22nd, the three-day workshop equipped energy professionals with the necessary knowledge to plan, measure, gather and analyze data for verifying and reporting energy savings in projects. Topics covered in the training included efficient and effective methods to calculate energy performance of building and infrastructure projects through the implementation of International Measurement and Verification Protocol standards.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, said, “Countries in the Gulf region consume energy at a staggering rate that is nearly three times higher than the global average per capita consumption. Energy data from recent years point to the critical need for sustainable energy practices. Against this backdrop, we are introducing AEE’s CMVP training program in Qatar market to address the need to measure and verify energy consumption patterns of buildings and infrastructure projects transparently and accurately. Robust energy measurement and verification practices are imperative to ensure energy efficiency for a sustainable world. By optimizing our energy systems, we can successfully navigate our world in transition. By integrating energy efficiency as a key part of our academic offerings, we aim to prepare a cohort of professionals who will lead the region's energy transition with the knowledge and tools required to catalyze climate mitigation and adaptation."
The comprehensive training covered a range of essential topics related to energy management, including an introduction to energy management concepts, contextual considerations, and the basis for adjustment. Participants attending the training learnt about fundamental performance verification approaches, as well as two important M&V approaches – the retrofit isolation approach and the whole facility approach. The training also included insights on M&V planning, M&V reporting, savings reporting, metering and considerations and modeling concepts and applications. The training concluded with worked examples and an exam review to help participants solidify their understanding of the course material.
The newly introduced AEE CMVP training program adds to the list of other AEE trainings including AEE Certified Energy Manager and AEE Renewable Energy Professional training programs that are currently offered by GORD as the entity leading AEE Qatar Chapter. GORD was chosen by AEE in December 2021 to head the official AEE Qatar Chapter. The recent CMVP course is a continuation of a series of specialized trainings intended for the Qatar market. AEE Qatar Chapter’s ongoing trainings include topics related to energy engineering, energy management, energy efficiency and conservation, energy auditing, renewable and alternative energy, power generation, energy services, sustainability, techno-economics, and lifecycle costing of energy systems.
