AEE Qatar Chapter concludes virtual training on renewable energy

Led by the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD), the Qatar Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) has successfully concluded its first Certified Renewable Energy Professional (REP). The three-day training held from June 12 to 14, which took place virtually, aimed to promote clean energy expertise in the region and provide professionals with globally accredited industry training.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, said, “The Gulf region's hydrocarbon intense economies face a pressing need to promote renewable and clean energy projects, and it is through concerted efforts that we can overcome this challenge. Capacity building is of paramount importance in achieving a successful energy transition. The AEE REP training program is one facet of GORD’s comprehensive approach to fostering a greener and more sustainable future for our communities."

The AEE REP certification is widely recognized in the energy management and sustainability field. It acknowledges the expertise and experience of professionals involved in the specification and application of renewable and alternative energy technologies, assessment of renewable energy projects, and the development of achievable low-carbon and sustainability goals for organizations.

The training covered a comprehensive range of topics over the three-day intensive program. Participants delved into subjects such as the environmental impacts driving the use of alternative energy, solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, waste-to-energy systems, fuel cells, hybrid alternative energy systems, creative energy storage applications, alternative energy strategies for buildings, transportation systems, governmental alternative energy programs, financial approaches, incentives for alternative energy, and the future of alternative energy.

Upon completing the training, the attendees are now eligible to take the REP exam, a crucial step towards becoming AEE’s Certified Renewable Energy Professional. This certification further validates their expertise in renewable energy technologies and their ability to contribute to sustainable practices.

The introduction of the AEE REP training program expands the offerings of AEE trainings available through GORD, which already include the AEE Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and AEE Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP®) training programs. GORD was selected by AEE in December 2021 to lead the official AEE Qatar Chapter, showcasing its expertise and commitment to advancing sustainable energy practices in Qatar.

AEE Qatar Chapter's training programs cover a wide range of topics related to energy engineering, energy management, energy efficiency and conservation, energy auditing, renewable and alternative energy, power generation, energy services, sustainability, techno-economics, and lifecycle costing of energy systems.
