Continuing its ongoing efforts to fight climate change, Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) – represented by the Public Parks Department – continued its Plant Million Trees Initiative in collaboration with the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). On Monday, March 1, a tree plantation activity was carried out at QSTP in the presence of senior leadership from MME, GORD and QSTP.

Organized on Monday, March 1, the event took place in the precincts of GORD’s research facility TechnoHub located inside QSTP, where representatives of participating organizations planted saplings of native flora suitable for Qatar's climatic conditions.

The event was attended by Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, Mr. Yousuf Abdulrahman Saleh, Executive Director of QSTP and Mr. Muhammad Ali Al Khoury, Director of the Public Parks Department, along with other senior members.

Plant Million Trees Initiative resonates with GORD’s foundational principles that are premised on driving climate solutions through environmental conservation and preventing resource depletion. The program reaffirms MME’s commitment to increase afforestation, develop vegetation cover and preserve the environment. The program is taking place in cooperation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) along with government agencies, schools and private sector entities. Since its launch, the initiative has been joined by leading organizations while also gaining support of envoys from various embassies within Qatar.

With the drive to plant a million trees going strong, the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is inviting public and private entities, institutions and community members to join the initiative and help preserve the ecosystem while also improving human health and quality of life.
