GSAS workshops in Lebanon

Expanding its reach across the MENA region, the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) has concluded its training sessions in Beirut, Lebanon. GORD leads the sustainability landscape by driving climate actions and promoting green built environment in the region. With capacity building and knowledge dissemination at the core of its operations, GORD regularly conducts workshops to train professionals in pursuing sustainable design, construction, operations and energy assessment of the built environment. The academy has trained 4000+ candidates and awarded 2000+ licenses for Certified Green Professionals (CGPs) specializing in the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS).

The training sessions were organized in collaboration with Dar for its designers and engineers who flew down from Jordan, Egypt and various cities of Lebanon to attend the event. Headquartered in Lebanon, Dar provides planning, design, management and consultancy for projects across the world. With iconic projects linked with Lusail City and Hamad Medical Corporation in its portfolio, Dar has the highest number of GSAS CGPs. Having its presence among the top construction organizations within the Middle East, Dar regularly holds sustainability trainings as part of its staff’s continuous development program. Eventually, the trained designers and engineers enable the delivery of sustainable designs for the company’s projects across the region.

GSAS is MENA’s first performance-based green building certification system aimed at improving the design, construction and operations of buildings while also identifying sustainability challenges specific to the regional built environment. The framework has comprehensive schemes for previously uncovered projects such as mosques and railways. In this context, the recent workshops in Lebanon covered two courses, namely GSAS Design & Build Refresher Course and GSAS Energy & Water Assessment.

The aim of these workshops is to equip these professionals in assessing and implementing sustainability standards as per GSAS. The Refresher Course helped CGPs update their knowledge about latest GSAS standards as per its 4th edition launched in 2019. GSAS framework is regularly upgraded to address the construction industry’s changing dynamics.

The Energy & Water Assessment Workshop is another specialized course designed by GORD experts to educate and train engineering professionals in sustainably improving energy and water conservation of buildings and infrastructure projects. Participants attending this one-day workshop received training in using advanced industry tools such as Energia SuiteTM and Water SuiteTM.

Eventually, the courses add to professionals’ continuing education units (CEUs) and maintain their certification in the field of sustainability within the built environment. With the first two 2020 workshops now concluded, senior leadership from Dar has indicated plans to continue the training series with future GSAS workshops.
