GORD Awards KNPC’s Sustainability Achievements and Celebrates its Expansion to the State of Kuwait

Dec 11,2018

GORD presents Kuwait National Petroleum Company with two major sustainability awards during a recent visit to the KNPC’s facilities in the State of Kuwait, adding another strong sustainability achievement to its expanding portfolio.

The awards came to recognize KNPC’s outstanding fulfillment of the GSAS Construction Management and Operations certification requirements in two of its projects. KNPC’s Administration Building at Mina Abdullah Refinery was awarded the Silver GSAS Operations certificate, while the Administrations Building at Al-Zour Refinery achieved the Two-Star rating of the GSAS Design & Build Certification for new building under construction.

Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD, presented two GSAS awards to Mohammed Ghazai Al Mutari, CEO of KNPC, in recognition for KNPC’s adoption of the best sustainability practices in two of its infrastructure projects and following a comprehensive site audit and assessment session.

During the site audit, GSAS Team evaluated and rated how well Mina Abdullah Refinery the Administrations Building at Al-Zour Refinery are managed and maintained, which shall enable long-sustained operations at high performance levels.

GORD’s presentation of the awards to KNPC comes in line with the several ongoing initiatives organized in the State of Kuwait, expanding GORD’s sustainability efforts to existing buildings in the GCC region.

“In times when the need for a collective effort to mitigate climate change has become more evident, it’s imperative to recognize GORD’s continuous efforts to expand its mission to address today’s most stressing environmental challenges in the region,” said Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GORD.

He also added buildings and infrastructure form a significant part of our sustainable future as this sector accounts for considerable share of energy consumption and associated GHG emissions. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate best sustainability practices in new building as well as existing ones.
