GORD to assist in strict implementation of QSAS rating system for buildings in Lusail City

Mar 14,2012

Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD), Qatar's leading research, consultancy and training institute, has announced that it has recently signed an agreement with Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC) to provide the necessary resources, skills, expertise and industry experience in implementing a set of minimum measurable performances for buildings that are being built in Lusail City.

Under the agreement, GORD will assist design consultants in complying with the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS) certification requirements and verifying the submittals required from the consultants and contractors for each QSAS criterion.

In addition to providing QSAS support services during the design stage, GORD will also extend support services during and after construction. The partnership with LREDC is part of GORD’s continuing thrust to empower key stakeholders in the construction industry to address pressing environmental challenges and ultimately promote healthy, energy and resource-efficient, and environmentally responsible building practices in Qatar and the entire Gulf region.

Dr. Yousef Mohamed Al Horr, Founding Chairman of GORD, said: “The new partnership with Lusail Real Estate Development Company underlines the continuing efforts of GORD to promote environmentally responsible building practices in the region. GORD strongly believes that the construction sector plays a very important role in promoting sustainability, which is one of the key elements that will underpin the long-term socioeconomic growth and progress of our society. GORD therefore actively reaches out to stakeholders in the construction industry such as LREDC to draw attention to pressing environmental concerns and raise awareness about the importance of the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System as a benchmark for sustainable construction practices.”

Eng. Essa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, CEO of Lusail City, a development by Qatari Diar, said: “GORD provides specialised expertise that will help us realize our vision for Lusail City to become one of the best home living and business destinations in the region. Lusail City embodies the aspirations of the Qatari people to live in a peaceful, progressive and sustainable environment, and we are confident that our partnership with GORD is an important step towards achieving these goals.”

Lusail City is a futuristic project that will create a modern and ambitious society that will serve as a new extension to the capital city of Doha. It will feature a smart, peaceful and inspirational environment that combines artistic elements of architecture with a wide range of modern amenities and services that satisfy the needs of its residents and visitors.
