OVERVIEW

SEER is the ratio of the total amount of cooling energy provided, divided by the total energy input to the cooling plant summed over the year. The SEER calculations should be conducted in accordance with the local climate and operating conditions for the specific cooling load profile of the project.



DEVELOPMENT

GORD has developed a new "GSAS SEER TOOL" in order to calculate Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and generate compliance report which can be submitted to GSAS Trust to support GSAS Energy Category assessment.

The tool calculates the SEER for chilled water central plants based on the following:

  • Chillers’ selection parameters and nominal capacities
  • Performance curves based on manufacturers’ data
  • Coefficients for the cooling capacity as function of temperature curve
  • Coefficients for the energy input ratio function of temperature curve and
  • Coefficients for the energy input ratio function of Part Load Ratio
  • Thermal store capacities & hourly operation profiles, if applicable
  • Total buildings’ cooling coil load (8760 hours)
  • Climate data



FEATURES

The "GSAS SEER TOOL" offers calculations for water / air cooled chillers with various types of compressors ranging from

  • Scroll compressors
  • Reciprocating compressors
  • Screw compressors and
  • Centrifugal compressors (for water cooled only)


PROCESS

The tool contains reference database and chillers default values, which can only be used for initial assessment. However, for final submissions, the project team has to submit the actual selections/ technical data sheet from the manufacturer.

For energy centers and other projects where SEER verification is required, projects can use “GSAS SEER TOOL” to generate report and submit for compliance along with the supporting documentation as follows: 

  • HVAC drawings for chilled water plant.
  • Load profiles for 8760 hours.
  • Manufacturer data for COPs/ chillers, pump-sets and any other equipment.
  • Evidences/narratives to support any assumptions entered in to the calculations.
