GORD conducted a workshop on GSAS for the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Qatar

Jul 25,2017

The workshop was titled “Sustainable Urban Environment using the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS)”

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment Qatar, represented by the Center for Environmental and Municipal Studies and the Environmental Assessment Department, in cooperation with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), held a training session on Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) on Wednesday, 19th July 2017. The session was attended by 25 technical and legal professionals from the departments of environmental assessment, industrial inspection and pollution control, radiation and chemical protection, and the Legal Affairs.

Dr. Essam Elsarrag, Director of Research & Development at the GORD conducted the workshop where he introduced GSAS explaining the system's applications on various types of buildings and infrastructure (government buildings, sports buildings, trains, Lusail City - residential, commercial, industrial and logistics buildings).
The Comprehensive Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), formally known as the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS), was developed in 2010 by the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD) in collaboration with the T.C. Chan Center at the University of Pennsylvania, aimed to create a sustainable urban environment to reduce the environmental impacts of buildings while meeting the needs of the community.

GSAS is described as the world's most comprehensive green building assessment system after careful analysis of 40 codes of green buildings around the world. One of the most important features of this system is that it considers the social, economic, environmental and cultural characteristics of society, which differ between the regions of the world.
